Walking Together in the Milton Ulladulla District in collaboration with the Ulladulla Local Aboriginal Land Council, hosted the Ngulla Festival, a vibrant two-day NAIDOC event at the Ulladulla Civic Centre on 12 and 13 July 2024. This festival was a celebration of First Nations voices, culture, and community, and it successfully engaged both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of the local community.

“Truly, the festival was done in the spirit of community. The feedback we received was amazing,” said Aunty Sharon Bunyan, Vice President of Wandarma AECG, Head Teacher and Aboriginal Studies teacher at Ulladulla High School, and Walking Together member.  “My heart is full of gratitude to all you community members who passionately supported NAIDOC celebrations and made our dreams a reality”.

“The Ngulla NAIDOC Festival was a great success and it truly brought the community together as one”, said Vice President Shoalhaven Walking Together Alliance and Chairperson of Walking Together in the Milton Ulladulla District, Mitchell Lasker. “I am looking forward to planning for next year.”

“We had so much positive feedback about how great it was to have a chance to hear and learn about our cultures. There were so many amazing activities. People told me they really loved sitting down, listening and learning from the likes of Uncle Vic and Uncle Michael.”

The event fostered a strong sense of unity and cultural pride, creating lasting memories and reinforcing the importance of community collaboration in celebrating and preserving First Nations heritage. We are grateful for the support and participation of everyone involved, which made the Ngulla NAIDOC Festival a meaningful and memorable occasion. We hope that this indicates future festivals and support for the community will be sustained, reflecting a continued appetite for future Ngulla NAIDOCs and ongoing community and funder support.
