HSC Aboriginal Studies:
Two Way Learning

Would you like to learn more about First Nations Cultures while supporting local students to succeed in their HSC?

What’s involved?

Can you help proofread for a Year 12 Aboriginal Studies student?

Ulladulla High School often has one of the largest cohorts of students electing to study Year 12 Aboriginal Studies, thanks to the tireless work of Aboriginal Studies teacher Sharon Bunyan. Each HSC student selects a topic they're passionate about to write a report, like these:

  • ‘Music is the Meditjin’: Connecting to Culture through Music in Contemporary Aboriginal Australia

  • Indigenous Women in Rugby League

  • Empowering Futures: Unravelling the Impact of Education on Economic Status in Aboriginal Communities

  • Decolonising Aboriginality: Understanding colonial constructs of Aboriginality and looking towards a future of self-determination

These kids have tried their best - and now they need a fresh set of eyes to help with proofreading!

It's hoped that this is a mutually beneficial exercise, where you might enjoy reading about their interest area, and you'll be invited to a celebratory morning tea with the students and teachers where they'll express their gratitude, and display their printed reports and the artefacts they create as part of their project.

If you can help with proofreading: please send an email to admin@walkingtogether.au

(If reading is not your thing but you want to support our young people - no worries! - we create lots of opportunities for different skill sets, like sewing dance costumes for one example.)

More information about this initiative

Through this collaborative approach, we hope to not only enhance the academic experience of our students but also promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal issues within our community. By working together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all our students.

We extend an invitation to volunteers in this initiative to visit our final products during reconciliation week for Morning Tea. Your support in this project would be greatly appreciated as we work across the community and tap into to their strengths

Thank you to our 2024 volunteers

We are so grateful to the volunteers who gave their time and proofread HSC students Aboriginal Studies Major Works in early 2024. Students poured their hearts into their research and were amazed that strangers read their work so closely and left thoughtful comments & words of encouragement. These students and volunteers are changemakers. We are proud of every individual involved. Thank you.
